DEFINITION OF POSITION: Responsible for executing the food service program at assigned school. Assigned school may vary from day to day depending on staffing needs.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Nutrition Services Supervisor
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Possess a Washington State Food Handler’s permit
- Possess basic skills in reading, record keeping, and mathematics
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- One or more years of experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation
- Experience with point of service computer program
- Experience keeping production records
- Experience working with young people
- Experience working with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of post-secondary courses pertaining to quantity food production, food service management, nutrition, and sanitation
- Willing to maintain and update abilities by attending workshops, food shows, and in-service programs
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work as head cook in schools across the school district when the school head cook is absent
- Prepare and serve both breakfast and lunch with an emphasis on appetizing and appealing meals with high nutritive value
- Assure that standardized recipes and portion controls are used
- Maintain accurate inventory using FIFO system
- Check goods received against orders and correct discrepancies
- Maintain high standards of safety and sanitation to ensure the safety and health of staff and students
- Meet USDA standards as they pertain to participation in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs
- Wash dishes and ensure kitchen cleanliness
- Assist Nutrition Services Supervisor with program evaluation and reporting
- Ability to consistently:

TERMS OF CONTRACT:
- Salary: Unrepresented Classified Employee, Elementary Head Cook: $20.86 - $24.40 per hour
- Length of Contract: 6 hours/day (7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.), 180 days/year
- Benefits/Leaves: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per board policy.
