Description

NOTE:  This is a split shift position.  The daily work schedule for the position is 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

 

DEFINITION OF POSITION:  Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, assist with the daily operations of the Transportation Department including the coordination of student transportation to and from school and related school district sponsored activities.

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Transportation Supervisor

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license
  • Ability to apply standard business management systems, equipment, and software programs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Pullman School District transportation operations
  • Ability to communicate clearly with parents and staff via phone and two-way radio
  • Ability to obtain a Type II license and/or CDL with bus endorsement to drive as needed 

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Respond to the public in a cordial, courteous manner; answer telephones, relay messages, coordinate two-way radio traffic with drivers, and assist with transportation office operations
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of all routes, maps and related documents using a computerized routing system (i.e Transfinder); prepare and provide updates to route books
  • Provide communication assistance to parents and schools during routes
  • Answer transportation questions from parents and school staff
  • Assist with the assignment of substitute bus drivers
  • Keep accurate records/logs of trips for billing purposes
  • Assist with assigning drivers and buses to trip requests
  • Attend trainings as identified and required by supervisor
  • Assist with shop operations including, but not limited to, scheduling, record keeping, communicating with vendors, etc.
  • Assist with the recovery of disabled vehicles as needed
  • Work with colleagues in a collaborative manner and be a positive team builder
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Work positively with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization
  • Work with a high level of energy
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
  • Perform other duties as assigned

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

Salary: Unrepresented Classified Employee Wage Schedule, $21.65 – $25.33 per hour

Length of Contract: 4 hours/day (7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.), 180 days/year

Benefits/Leaves: Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).  Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per board policy.
