Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION:  Directly responsible for quality instruction of visual arts (painting, drawing, and clay/ceramics) 

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  High School Principal 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Art or Visual Arts
  • Successful teaching, substituting, or student teaching experience in art 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Art
  • Additional endorsements at the high school level
  • Experience and/or desire to coach or lead an extracurricular athletic or academic team 

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Fulfill all teaching assignments effectively including required and elective art courses
  • Knowledge of the Arts learning standards related to visual arts
  • Use of effective teaching techniques for high school students
  • Plan and develop quality instructional experiences regularly followed by appropriate assessment and feedback for students and parents
  • Organize individual, small group, or large group learning experiences as appropriate to the students, subject matter, and outcomes desired
  • Select and/or create instructional lessons to support appropriately adopted materials
  • Organize the physical setting to contribute to an environment conducive to learning
  • Understand the unique needs of high school students
  • Manage student behaviors and classroom climate for effective student learning
  • Recognize conditions that may lead to disciplinary concerns
  • Manage instructional equipment/materials in the classroom
  • Maintain accurate records of student information and assessment data with the ability to access the information upon request or as needed
  • Manage and monitor art supply inventory and ordering
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with staff and community members
  • Participate in building/all school activities with willingness to serve on committees and/or as student activities advisor
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies, etc.)
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible 

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary*:  $33,190 - $62,559 per year (actual contract amount will be pro-rated based on the number of days worked), placement based on experience and level of education
  • Length of Contract: .6 FTE for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year only
  • Leaves/Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.  Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).  Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Education Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (PEA Bargaining Agreement).
